Grant Awards 2011
The Trustees of the Drama Circle Theatre Trust were delighted to make grants in 2011 to three of the applicants for financial assistance towards a specific course or project, designed to improve his or her skills or knowledge of some aspect of theatre. All the successful applicants presented themselves with interest and enthusiasm during their interviews.
The recipients of the grants were -
Nanah McGleenon:
A teacher of dance/drama since 1994, Nanah trained in Korea and London. She runs her own dance/drama group in South Belfast, called Green Sky Performing Arts. She was awarded a grant towards the presentation of an inter-active media show, "Love of Salmon", in the MAC in June 2012.
Melissa Smith::
Melissa has been involved in youth and community theatre from the age of 13. Since acquiring a degree in Drama, she has worked as a director for groups such as Belvoir Players, Ards Arts and in the Belfast Opera House as well as forming her own amateur group - Dundonald Association of Music and Drama (DAMD) and also Young Talent Youth Theatre. She received her grant towards a year-long Masters degree in Applied Theatre at Manchester University.
Jude McVitty::
Jude has a BA (Hons.) in Choreography and became the Director of the Crescent Arts Youth Theatre Company. She has created original material and, as a community visual artist, develops pieces with an emphasis on participation. She has been given the grant to help devise a programme exploring the theme of apathy, with an aim of providing an avenue for self-exploration and social awareness. This will be in collaboration with 2 colleagues, Sam Porciello and Jan Goddard, who bring a wide experience of community and multi-media work.
