DRAMA CIRCLE THEATRE TRUST
Grant Awards 2008
The Trustees of the Drama Circle Theatre Trust were delighted to make grants in 2008 to two of the applicants for financial assistance towards a specific course or project, designed to improve his or her skills or knowledge of some aspect of theatre. All the succesful applicants presented themselves with interest and enthusiasm during their interviews.
The recipients of the grants were -
Gary Wilson (Longside Productions)
Presenting the award is Dorothy Wiley, who is Hon. Treasurer of the Drama Circle Theatre Trust. Gary Wilson formed Lomgside Productions to present new writings for the theatre. The grant which he received was used to produce "Moondance & Fandango", written by Stephen Cummings and Gary Wilson. It was presented, very successfully, at the Old Museum Arts Centre on 15th November, 2009. This was followed by "The Twelve Days of Christmas", a series of monolgues, written by students and performed, in the main, by the authors. This production was presented at the Black Box on 9th December, 2009. Gary has also presented the first play in centres in England and hopes to expand the dual-country presentations with other performances of new writings this year.
Dean Johnson (Belfast)
Presenting the award is Dorothy Wiley, who is Hon. Treasurer of the Drama Circle Theatre Trust. Dean used his grant to fund course fees to attend Youth Music Theatre:UK in Berkshire, having passed his audition to be accepted on the course run by one of the largest youth companies in the UK. The course gave training in all aspects of musical theatre and the students rehearsed a musical version of "Great Expectations" with professional tutors, highly experienced in choreography, music and theatre, which was performed at the end of the course for the general public. Dean found the whole experience extremely satisfying and challenging, in the best possible way, and felt he had learned a lot.
